Mahar, Elizabeth A., "Betsy" (Castro), 39 of Harwich, MA died unexpectedly Friday April 16 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

Born in South Amboy, NJ, Ms. Mahar was raised and educated in Clifton Park, NY. She was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, where she was a star soccer player. She was also a graduate of the Barbizon School of Modeling.

After high school, Ms. Mahar married and began raising her family. She worked as a sales representative for the Hallmark Card Co. for many years. She most recently worked for CVS in Hyannis, MA and Harwich, MA.

Ms. Mahar moved to Harwich in 1995 from Clifton Park, NY. She also had lived in Anniston and Huntsville, AL and Howell and Point Pleasant, NJ.

A lover of music, Ms. Mahar loved to play guitar, compose and sing music. As a teen, she won a contest, sponsored by People Magazine, for her guitar playing. She also loved spending time at the beach and at the ocean. She also loved to dance. A devoted mother, she enjoyed spending time with her children.

Ms. Mahar is survived by three sons, Christopher and Brendan Switzer and Michael Mahar, Jr. all of Harwich; a daughter, Beth Anne Switzer of Harwich; her mother, Elizabeth A. (Cook) Clancy of West Harwich and Venice, FL; four brothers, Glenn A. Castro of Santa Fe, NM, Neil M. Castro of Saratoga Springs, NY, Scott A. Castro, South Yarmouth, MA and Brian L. Castro of Waterford, NY; two sisters, Deborah E. Barton of Venice, FL, and Kathleen A. Rose of South Yarmouth, MA. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Angelo L. Castro, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday April 22 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Interment will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Yarmouthport, MA.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday April 21 in the funeral home.
