Phillips, Wallace L.
Phillips, Wallace L., 80 of South Yarmouth, died Monday Nov. 14, 2005 at EPOCH Senior Health of Brewster. He was the husband of the late Mary (Clarke) Phillips, who died in 1989.
Born in Brockton, Mr. Phillips married his late wife in 1945 and then served in the U.S. Army from 1947 until honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class in 1948.
Mr. Phillips worked for the Avon Sole Co. in Avon, MA from 1951 to 1965. He then moved to South Yarmouth where he worked as a custodian at the Mattachese Middle School in West Yarmouth and at the Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School in South Yarmouth. After his retirement in the early 1990’s, Mr. Phillips volunteered at the Salvation Army in Hyannis, working in the kitchen for several years.
Mr. Phillips was a member of the Cape Cod Fish and Game Association in Harwich, the National Rifle Association and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
A sports enthusiast, Mr. Phillips was a lifelong Red Sox fan and also enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and spending time with his family.
Mr. Phillips is survived by a daughter, Charlanna M. Phillips of South Yarmouth; a son, Wallace L. Phillips, Jr. of Campobello, SC; a sister, Grace Astle of Danville, VT; four grandchildren, Mathew Phillips of Weymouth, Jennifer Phillips of Beverly and Julie and Paul Montag of Campobello, SC; a great granddaughter, Cailey Descharnais of Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private.
