Crowell, Nye
Crowell, Nye, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Pavilion in Centerville.
He was the beloved husband of the late Viola Crowell for 66 years, father of the late James Crowell and brother of the late Joshua Crowell. He is survived by his son John Crowell and his wife Sheila of Barnstable. He also leaves 3 granddaughters; Alicia Crowell-Furrer of Cotuit, Laura Crowell-Swartz of Plymouth and Jeanne Crowell-Willis of North Attleboro and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by close friends including Lucille on Sandy Neck and his best friend Maureen.
Nye was born in Dennis in 1915 and graduated from Springfield College in 1936 where he played lacrosse, basketball and baseball. He ran the YMCA in Panama Canal Zone and then joined the Navy. He was a communications officer on supply boats in the Atlantic during WWII. He was employed with Cape Cod Cooperative Bank for 37 years, 22 of those years he served as President.
An avid golfer, taught by his father and others, he was active for many years with the Bass River and Cummaquid Golf Clubs. Nye won the Cummaquid Championship in 1951 and 1960. He loved to sea clam and commute from Sandy Neck during the summers.
