Gary E. Space, 67, of Yarmouth Port passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Born and raised on Cape Cod to Elizabeth and Douglass Space, Gary grew up in Yarmouth Port and attended the D-Y school system. After graduating from D-Y High School, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in July of 1982 after suffering multiple brain injuries. Gary most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as his years working for the Christmas Tree Shops. Gary is survived by his sister Pamela Coggeshall, Nephew Chet Coggeshall (Alexa), niece Annie Coggeshall (Marc), niece Faythe Coggeshall (Lee), and his great-nieces and nephews, Brianna, Landon, Conor, Mia, and Rhea. Gary was predeceased by his parents Douglass and Elizabeth “Betty” Space, his brother Bryan Space and his sister Melody Space Zamachaj, all of Yarmouth Port. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed and very dear.” Services are to be determined and will be private. I haven't seen Gary for many, many years, but I will never forget him. He was kind, sweet, and funny. One Halloween, Gary was sick and I offered to trick or treat for him. I was 14 and a freshman in DY, but I couldn't let him miss out on all the goodies. Betty helped to dress me as a hobo, complete with burnt cork rubbed on my face. Most of the people at the door didn't say anything, but one lady was shocked to see me, at my age, trick or treating. She looked me up and down and asked, "Are you supposed to be a big Bozo?" When I told Gary, he laughed and laughed. He was a good "little brother" to me, he laughed at my antics, and he had a nickname for me that I've never forgotten ... "How you doing, Bolster Bar?" Rest in peace, Gary.
