Salvatore Caruso Jr
Jul 13th, 2025
Salvatore Caruso Jr, "Sal", 89, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on July 13, 2025, at his home in West Yarmouth, MA. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (Commito) Caruso with whom he shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Everett MA, the youngest child of the late Salvatore and Maria (Imbrescia) Caruso, Sal graduated from Everett High School in 1954 and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University in 1962. He raised his family in Wakefield, MA, later retiring to Wrinkle Point in West Dennis and Southport in Mashpee. He had a long career as a mechanical engineer, working at several different defense contractors before settling at Raytheon, where he spent the majority of his career and from which he retired.
A high school football player himself, Sal was a strong supporter of his children’s sporting activities, championing their hockey, baseball, and figure skating passions. He was a devoted husband to his wife, cherishing her right up to the end, and adored his grandchildren. An engineer through-and-through, he was always doing projects around the house, from tending his vegetable garden to home repairs. A fan of Frank Sinatra, his favorite song was “My Way”, which also embodied the way he lived. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as well as taking long walks, particularly along West Dennis beach.
In addition to his wife Virginia, Sal is survived by their five children: Salvatore Caruso III and wife Stefanie Cloutier of Concord, MA; Michael Caruso and wife Cathleen Coburn of Windham, NH; Robert Caruso and wife Kim of Ipswich, MA; Kim Caruso of West Dennis, MA; and Emily MacIntyre of Forestdale, MA. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Isabella and Ben Caruso, Nicolas Hudson and his fiance Isabella Goddard, Stephen and Celia Trombly, and Kris Dery; two great-grandchildren, Breannah and Bella Dery; and many nieces and nephews.
Sal is predeceased by his brothers Anthony Caruso, Joseph Caruso and James Caruso, and his sisters Anna Scoppa, Lucille Kulakowski, and Catherine Hogan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sal's memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). The family would like to thank Broad Reach Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Sal and his family.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Parish in St. Jude's Chapel, 5 Job’s Fishing Rd., in Mashpee, MA.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sal's passing. I didn't know him well, but every time I met him at family events, his genuine friendliness left an impression. He clearly loved his family deeply. Thinking of you during this difficult time.
