William H. “Bill” Donovan, 84, of South Yarmouth, formerly of Worcester died Thursday, July 17th.
He was born to the late Clyde and Gertrude (Dorsey) Donovan. Bill graduated in 1960 from St. Peter’s High School in Worcester where he was a standout athlete, earning induction into the St. Peter’s Hall of Fame. He married Alyce Power in 1963 and they lived together with their children in Worcester before relocating to South Yarmouth in 2008.
Bill was a former State Representative from Worcester and worked for many years in the Office of the State Auditor. He was a leader of the Ty Cobb Little League, Worcester Vikings Pop Warner Football Club and involved in many civic organizations, among them the March of Dimes, Project Light and was a founding member of the Worcester County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee.
He was an avid golfer and most recently a member at Blue Rock Golf Course in South Yarmouth. Over his lifetime he made 6 hole’s-in-one. Bill is survived by his wife Alyce, his children Maryalyce and her wife Ellen Cummings, Paul and his wife Maria Sullivan, William and his wife Pamela, Patricia, and Kathleen and her husband Arthur Sisko. He is also survived by his grandchildren Abigail, Lu, Grace, Emily, Bella, Raeden and Teagan, his sister Mary O’Connell and sisters in law Maryann Donovan and Mary Looney and many nieces and nephews. His sisters Margaret, Catherine, Anne and Joan and his brothers John and Joseph pre-deceased him.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. John’s Food for the Poor in Worcester or the Family Table Collaborative in South Yarmouth.
A visiting hour will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2025 at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA 02664 followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Pius X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. Burial will be private.

We have so many fond memories - eating fondue at your first apartment, practical jokes with the VW Beetle… We also have many happy memories of our annual visits at the Cape with the Worcester gang. He will be missed.
