Mary Ann ‘Poppy’ Boucher formerly of East Dennis MA and Bucksport ME, passed away peacefully at home in Hyannis on July 28, 2025 at the age of 85.

Born on January 11, 1940, to Joseph and Beatrice Nutting (née Nichols) in Cambridge MA. She was soon nicknamed ‘Poppy” due to her inability to remain still and she retained that incessant drive for activity throughout her life. Mary Ann was a talented and compassionate clinician and nursing educator whose care touched countless patients and students during a long and distinguished career. After receiving her RN from St. Joe’s Episcopal School of Nursing in Bayside Queens, Poppy worked for many years as a nurse at Cape Cod Hospital in roles across the institution, from the Inpatient Units to the Emergency Department and ICU. She continued her education throughout her career, teaching nursing students, publishing research and receiving her BSN from Salve Regina, her MSN from U Mass Boston and her doctorate from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH. Other career highlights include a stint as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves and working in an Indian Health Services clinic on the Navaho Reservation in Arizona.

In addition to a challenging career and raising three children, Mary Ann was a gifted and relentless crafter and hobbyist whose interests spanned a surprisingly wide array of activities from quilting, knitting and needlepoint to gardening, canning, beekeeping and raising chickens. Her sweaters and quilts continue to warm and comfort her family and friends.

A longtime denizen of Sesuit Neck where as a very young child she met her future husband Richard on the beach, she adored East Dennis and leaves behind many close friends and good memories. In their retirement years, Richard and Mary Ann eschewed the increasingly hectic and crowded Cape summers for quiet and solitude in Bucksport Maine and spending time exploring the country in the comfort of their R.V accompanied by their beloved German Shepherds Bruin and Nizhoni.

Mary Ann is predeceased by her Husband Richard Boucher, her parents and her children Ricky and John and innumerable pets. She is survived by her sister June Kirkbride and her children David and Patricia and Grandchildren Jack, Margaret, Kyle, Mat and Brynn.

A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Ste 1509, New York, NY 10018.
