Leona “Lee” “Nonie” (Carll) McElhiney 84 of Brewster died Saturday January 1, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of George H. McElhiney, Jr.

Born in Boston, Lee was the daughter of the late Kenneth W. and Almira (Young) Carll. She graduated in 1956 from Newton High School and attended the Academie Moderne finishing school.

Lee felt that her most important career choice was being a mother and a grandmother. She was incredibly loving, affectionate and a role model to us all.

She had a passion for fashion that was remarked upon by everyone who met her. She loved painting, going to the Playhouse every summer, lunches with her family and friends, and of course, coffee klatches in the mornings that could last for hours.

She traveled and saw all of the world she wanted to see, and was always happy to come home.

In addition to her husband, Lee is survived by 2 daughters, Heidi Govoni and her husband, Joseph of Yarmouth Port, and Melissa Bochicchio and her husband, Greg of Alpharetta, GA; five grandchildren, Samantha Govoni of South Yarmouth, Joelle and Michael Govoni both of Yarmouth Port, Courtney Bochicchio of Washington, DC, and Zachary Bochicchio of Nashville, TN; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lee was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Kenneth W. Carll, Jr.

We all love you and miss you.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday January 14 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Interment will be private.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Cod Alzheimer's Family Support Center, 2095 Main St., Brewster, MA 02631.

I remember the coffee klatches by the Sears Point pool with such fondness. Lee and the other amazing women all had the best advice and the most colorful stories! Rest In Peace beautiful Lee. I will think of you often.

I have so many wonderful memories of time with your mom. Been thinking of the ice cream stops on way home from Williston and kitchen chats over Benji. Her style was always impeccable but her pure kindness was her special grace. Such a beautiful soul...I miss her and send prayers and hugs. Much love.
