David E. Jordan, 93, of Harwich died Friday January 28, 2022 at the McCarthy Care Center in East Sandwich, following a brief battle with cancer.

He was the devoted husband of June R. (Wilsnack) Jordan, the love of his life. The couple had celebrated 72 years of marriage. June remembers her husband as a man filled with curiosity, a desire to acquire knowledge, and skills of many types.

Born in Wood-Ridge, NJ, David was the son of late Elmer V. and Alice J. (Sheaf) Jordan. He graduated from Ridgefield Park High School and from the College of Advanced Traffic, and he taught night classes at Russell Sage College in Troy, NY.

David served in the Naval Reserves and held multiple jobs to support his family prior to a successful, 35-year career in transportation and logistics, with the Union Carbide Corporation. During his career he traveled the country extensively, could point out many a landmark from his airplane seat, and could direct anyone toward interesting places to visit or dine, often off the beaten track.

David and June began raising their family in upstate and Queens, NY, where he developed a life-long interest in politics, before settling in Verona, NJ, for 30 years. The couple moved to Harwich in 1996, where they happily spent their retirement.

David soon became an active member and then President of The Cape Cod Viewfinders Camera Club. During his seven-year tenure as president, David saw membership grow by almost threefold. After stepping down from that role in 2004, he remained an active club member and was honored to hold a continuing seat on the club’s board, until his passing. He worked tirelessly with the Creative Art Center of Chatham to create and run many photography contests for the general public. He loved taking photos, especially of landscapes and macro views of nature’s beauty.

David was active in several other photography clubs, including the Photographic Society of America. He was also a member of the Cape Cod Men’s Club, and St. David’s Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth, where he enjoyed being a regular greeter and usher as well as volunteering at the Paper Pantry.

He loved reading and enjoyed writing short stories. He appreciated all kinds of music, especially classical works. David also enjoyed the beach and being on the water, taking his young family on overnight trips to the beaches of Long Island, NY and NJ. As a boy, he loved deep sea fishing with his father.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by three daughters, Leslie J. Cruikshank and her husband, Jack of Clarkston MI, Patrice J. Mavricos and her husband, John of South Yarmouth, and Pamela L. Sauerwald and her husband, Tim of Doylestown, PA; two grandsons, Christopher J. Mavricos of Boulder, CO and David M. Mavricos, of Cincinnati, OH; a sister, Alice Bauza of Ray City, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, William S. Jordan, Richard E. Jordan, and Beverly A. Scott.

A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date as well as a Celebration of Life gathering sometime in the Spring.

As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 100 North Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
