Lillian M. LaPoint, age 94, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on March 22, 2022.

Lillian was born in Hudson, Ma to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Weichel) Tassinari. In June of 2021, she was predeceased by her cherished husband of 70 years, John J. LaPoint. Lillian is survived by her children, Susan Baker and her husband, Rick of West Dennis, Joan LaPoint of San Francisco, CA, John LaPoint, Jr. and his wife, Gail Danelius of Livermore, CA and Laura Johnson and her husband, Eric of East Dennis. She will be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren Sarah Baker of Somerville, Catherine Clark and her husband, Daniel of Cotuit, John LaPoint III of Livermore, CA, Molly LaPoint of Berkley, CA, Margaret and Tyler Johnson of East Dennis. Lillian is also survived by her sister Natalie Mulcahy of Virginia and her brothers, Robert Tassinari, Henry Tassinari and Ralph Tassinari all of California. In addition to her parents, Lillian was predeceased by her sisters Doris Daversa and Elizabeth Haigh.

Lillian graduated from Kingston High School and earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Bridgewater State University. She began her teaching career in Boston area schools and she owned and operated a preschool in Brockton. In 1961 the family relocated to West Yarmouth and Lillian enjoyed teaching in all three of the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District’s elementary schools. Upon completion of her Masters, she embarked on her new career as school librarian at both the South Yarmouth Elementary and the John Simpkins Schools.

John and Lillian relocated to California in 1976 and for the next 22 years, Lillian worked at several area high schools in her capacity as a school librarian. They loved living in the warm climate of Southern California but in 1998, an opportunity presented itself to fill the librarian position at the Wixon Middle School in Dennis. They were excited to return to the Cape and Lillian was happy to return to the D-Y School District until her retirement in 2005.

While raising her children and pursuing her teaching career, Lillian generously volunteered her time to many church and community organizations. She could always be counted on to help a friend or neighbor and she was a constant source of unwavering support for her family. Lillian loved literature, her garden, walking on the beach with John, solving crossword puzzles and watching any and all sports. (As an avid sports fan, she would hire a babysitter so she could watch the Army/Navy football game without interruption!) Her greatest pride and joy was her family and any time spent with them was a cause for celebration.

Lillian LaPoint was a passionate and fierce advocate for children. Her life was dedicated to the education and care of young people and she was a role model for all of us. She taught us to believe in ourselves, the power of family, and the deep and fulfilling benefits of service to others. God bless you, Mom. Your spirit will always guide us.

A private ceremony was held and Lillian was interred at Chandler Grey Cemetery in West Yarmouth. If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please consider an organization dedicated to the education and support of children.
