SIMPKINS – Marguerita W. “Bunty” (Williams) 89 of Centerville died Saturday December 5, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was the wife of the late John Simpkins, Jr. who died in December 2003. They had been married for 52 years.

Mrs. Simpkins was born in Worcester where she lived with her family prior to moving to Cape Cod at the age of 12. She graduated from the John Simpkins School in 1944 before entering Boston Children’s Hospital’s nursing program from which she received her Registered Nursing License in 1947.

She worked at her passion, which was to help young children while at John’s Hopkins University Hospital prior to marrying, as well as at Boston Children’s Hospital before moving back to the Cape. She and her husband settled into “Punkycot”, the Simpkins family home, otherwise known as “the crocus house” in Cummaquid, where they raised three children of their own. She also continued her helping role with children on a more informal basis as choir mother, as well as foster parent to several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also an avid reader.

Survivors include two sons, John Simpkins III and his wife, Kathryn Brooksforce of Albany, OR, and Haskell Simpkins and his wife, Cynthia of Cincinnati, OH; one daughter, Deborah Simpkins Rosenblad and her husband, Stanley of Cummaquid; and three beloved grandsons, Nathan Rosenblad and his wife, Katie, John Simpkins and Steven Simpkins; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Many thanks go out to the staff who have taken care of her for the past four years at Harbor Point Assisted Living for the Memory Impaired in Centerville and to Broad Reach Hospice during her recent decline.

At her request, Baha’i services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Home for Little Wanders, P.O. Box 55785, Boston, MA 02205-8183, the Visiting Nurse Association, or to a children’s charity of your choice.
