Harwich – Roscoe (Rocky) C. Chase III, 63, of Harwich, MA passed away on June 17, 2022, at his home in East Harwich.

Rocky was born on June 26, 1958 in Hyannis to Roscoe and Mary Chase. Rocky grew up in Harwich, attending the Harwich schools. He graduated from Harwich High School in 1976. Rocky then enlisted in the Marine Corps with three of his buddies from high school. He served four years in the Marine Corps as an infantryman from 1976 to 1980. Rocky received his honorable discharge in 1980 but would truly remain a Marine for the rest of his life.

Rocky returned home to Harwich in 1980 and began his career as a commercial fisherman. This would include deep sea lobster fishing, cod fishing, and eventually working his own lobster boat and business. It is difficult to find someone who could outwork Rocky Chase. There was the time when he worked as the deck hand on a cod fishing boat. For approximately 20 straight days Rocky and his boss would travel out to George’s Banks to catch their 2000-pound limit of fish (16-hour days). And Rocky would gut and clean all 2000 pounds of fish before the boat made it back to the Chatham Fish Pier. He learned how to operate on little sleep. And that continued with him all his life.

Rocky was proud to be a native Cape Codder and enjoyed living in Harwich for the majority of his life. Rocky was a fixture in Harwich and Chatham, well-known and well-liked by so many. Rocky had a semi-tough exterior, but he truly had a kind and soft heart. He was always willing to help someone in need. He kept busy serving others and found satisfaction in doing so. He also enjoyed playing cribbage with close friends.

But most of all Rocky loved his family. Rocky’s relationship with his son Brady is amazing. They were best friends, spending time together at every opportunity. Through participation in Brady’s sporting activities Rocky was able to acquire another large community of good friends in the Bourne and Sagamore Beach area and beyond, through various youth hockey programs.

Rocky will be missed tremendously by all those who knew and loved him. Rocky is survived by his son Brady Roscoe Chase of Sagamore Beach and Brady's six siblings, Dillon, Carolyn, Shannon, Kieran, Connor, Aidan Jones and 4 nieces and nephews that Rocky considered his grandchildren. Brother John Chase of Harwich, David and wife Diane Chase of Barnhart, MO, sister's Jean McCarthy of Dennis Port and Susan and husband John Monteiro of Harwich. Additionally, Rocky is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who looked up to and adored their Uncle Rocky.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 29 from 4-8 pm at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA. A graveside service will be held on Thurs June 30 at 10:45 am at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, with military honors. A procession will start at Hallett Funeral Home, on Thurs 9 am.

Please, in lieu of flower's memorial donations in Rocky's name can be made to Rocky Chase hockey scholarship with the Seahawks: 38 Captain Aldens Ln., Osterville, Ma 02655 or Roscoe (Rocky) Chase III memorial hockey scholarship, care of Brady Chase, 17 Oak Bluff Rd., Sagamore Beach, Ma 02562  “Another old soldier fades away – Semper Fidelis”

Sending my deepest respect and condolences to Rocky's family, and especially to his son Brady. Rocky Chase was one of the nicest, kindest people I've ever known. We were in first grade together, and then attended Harwich Jr.Sr. High School from 7th grade through graduation in 1976. I can't recall Rocky ever saying a bad thing about anyone. He was always smiling, fun to be around, and very kind. When I saw him at our high school reunion in DennisPort, in 2016/17 I think, Rocky showed me pictures and told me about his wonderful son. I have never seen anyone look and sound happier or more proud than Rocky Chase did at that moment. He glowed. Dear Brady, please know that even though he is not with you in the same way right now, your dad will always be with you, watching over you and being proud of the man you are becoming. God bless you, your family and your father, always. Anne Blackmore Sweeney, Eliot, Maine
