Tefter Stoddard

Dec 12th, 2015

STODDARD – Tefter Stoddard, age 89, was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and passed away on September 20, 2015, in Santa Monica, California. Her friends and family called her “Taffy.” She and her husband Jasper were married for nearly 69 years. They loved Cape Cod and called it home for more than 40 years, having first come to the Cape in the 1950s in a tent for summer vacations. They most recently lived in Harwich.

Taffy grew up on a farm in Millbury where she developed a lifelong love of horses. Her older sisters often substituted one of their horses as a babysitter, sitting her atop “Old Blind Jerry,” who dutifully walked her back and forth along a path on the farm.

Taffy and Jasper met at a dance hall before World War II and married soon after Jasper’s return from the war. She worked as an accountant for many years and was a stay-at-home mom while her kids were young. Taffy loved to cook and bake, and was an avid sewer, making many of the clothes her children wore to school, family celebrations, and other events.

Taffy was a loving wife to her husband Jasper, a devoted and caring mother to her children Ray, Janet, and Robin, and grandmother to her grandchildren, Corina, Adam, James, and Thomas. She had a kind heart and was a woman of extraordinary perseverance and strong opinions. She was devoted to her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday December 15 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of, Mrs. Stoddard. With her accomplishments, her love and joys, she was an amazing woman! I won't pretend to know what you're going through, but what has helped me deal with the loss of those I love, is turning to the Scriptures, something that has been a real source of comfort. One Scripture that gives me hope is, John 11:25, which says, " Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life." I hope that this verse will also comfort you and, I hope you and your family can get through this difficult time. Please accept my condolences for the loss of your beloved wife, mother, grandma and friend. Sincerely, Meryl
