John (Jack) F. Mullen of South Yarmouth passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 6, 2022. He was 83. Jack joins in heaven the love of his life Joanne, who he missed dearly when she left his side on January 9, 2021 after 60 years of marriage.

Born in Revere and raised in Stoneham, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Smith) Mullen. Jack attended Stoneham High School graduating in 1956. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston College in 1960 with a BS degree in Industrial Management. He was a member of the ROTC. After college, Jack spent two years in the army as an Explosive Ordinance Disposition Specialist and a sharpshooter. He was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Jack was an incredibly hard worker. He had in-depth knowledge of operational control and reporting procedures for both manufacturing and retail environment. One of Jack’s first jobs was working for Data General. He was instrumental in developing computer systems and manufacturing lines by helping propel the company to become a leader in the computer industry. In addition, he worked as a systems analyst at Prime Computer and Waters Associates where he designed and installed financial and inventory control systems.

Jack and Joanne lived in Auburn, MA before moving to South Yarmouth MA in 1983. He had an entrepreneurial spirit becoming a real estate broker and then as a successful business owner of AR Photo and Video. Jack refused to retire and spent his last working years in the photo development department of Walgreens. Jack was a loving husband and father and a devoted grandfather. There are many cherish memories of holidays and other gatherings shared together. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Jack was an avid sports fan, especially watching football and basketball. He was always there when you needed him and never hesitated to help others. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Jack was predeceased by his wife, Joanne (Hayes) Mullen, his sister Ann Falabella and his sister Linda Mullen. Jack is survived by his son, John F. Mullen III and his wife, Lisa of Lexington; his daughter Kathy LaPan of South Yarmouth; his daughter, Patricia M. Sardnola and her husband Robert of Shrewsbury; his son Joseph H. Mullen of South Yarmouth; his daughter, Maureen C. Hayes and her husband David W. Lawson of Kansas City MO; and eight grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew of Webster; Emily of South Yarmouth; Colleen, John of Lexington; Christopher, Katie and Patricia of Kansas City MO; and his sister-in-law Phyllis V. Casper of St. Paul MN.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Pius X Church, 5 Barbara St. S. Yarmouth, MA on Thursday Aug. 11 at 11am. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 pm.
