John Clark Jamison of Yarmouth Port, MA passed away peacefully on March 20, 2023. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, Gail Hutchinson Jamison, and his family.

Clark was born to Donald D. and Sara M. Jamison on the family farm in Jamestown, PA on February 24, 1935. He graduated Jamestown High School in 1953 and continued to Penn State University where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering while a participant in ROTC. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1968 as a Captain in the Army Corp of Engineers. His career as an aerospace engineer with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft/UTC spanned thirty-one years.

Clark’s lifelong love of sports began as a youth and he became a standout in both basketball and baseball. Always the pragmatist, he declined offers to play in college (“too short”) and had what he would call a comical try-out with the Cleveland Indians. He played league basketball and softball in Vernon, CT and fostered an appreciation of athleticism and good sportsmanship in his children.

During Clark’s career his work on fuel control systems resulted in patents. He was twice sent to Russia; a memorable experience in so many ways. A fond highlight of his career was the decade he was part of SAE International. He and Gail were able to travel the globe and formed many enduring friendships.

When Clark and Gail retired to Dennis, MA in 1995 they became active in town and church. Clark was selected for both the police and fire station building committees. At Dennis Union Church he served via stewardship, finance, property and ministerial search committees. Perhaps his skills were best utilized every Tuesday for years when he met with his favorite group of guys to “haul stuff” for the church’s successful annual auction (affectionately dubbed “Junk for Jesus”).

Clark enjoyed maintaining a vegetable garden, building just about anything he set his mind to, caring for animals, watching many great years of Penn State football, and helping where needed. He had a clever, witty, and perhaps wry sense of humor that was appreciated by many.

Clark was preceded in death not only by his parents but also by his sisters; E. Joyce Hustey and Mary Helen Valesky.

In addition to his wife, Clark is survived by his children Marshall Jamison of Windsor Locks, CT, Lisa Jamison of Tampa, FL, and Kimberly Dalton and husband Michael of West Hartford, CT. He was “Banka” to grandsons Benjamin and John Clark Dalton. Clark has always held dear to his heart the next generation including Janet, Kelly, Jamie, Todd, Will, and Hallie and extended family.

The family is grateful for the support given during the last few months of Clark’s life. Shannon Joy and Kadine Hilton of Cape Senior Home Healthcare were a special part of each day.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Dennis Union Church, 713 Main St, Dennis, MA 02638. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers please honor Clark by helping a neighbor, planting a garden, or caring for an animal. Memorial Donations can be made to The Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center, 247 Stevens St, Suite E, Hyannis, MA 02601. https://capeveterans.com/
