James Chenoweth Wiper, 81, of Yarmouth Port, formerly of Dover and Needham, died peacefully January 15, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Sally (Morse) and son of the late Harold A. and Miriam (Cherry) Wiper; loving father of Anne Taylor and her husband Duane of Littleton; James C., Jr. and his wife Laura of Wayland and Stephen R. of West Barnstable; grandfather of Stephen and Jennifer Taylor and Troy, Devin, C.J and Colby Wiper. Brother of Harold A. Wiper, Jr. and his wife Olive of East Dennis. He is also survived by many nieces, grandnieces and nephews.

Always a gentleman, Jim will be remembered for his infectious smile, his positive attitude and his love of family and friends. He was born in Boston and raised in Waban. A graduate of Newton High School, he was captain of the state championship football team in 1953. He attended University of Vermont and Ohio State University. A team player and athlete all his life, Jim volunteered in the Needham Youth sports programs and was former president of Needham Booster’s Club. His greatest passion was golf. As a former member of Brae Burn Country Club, he loved the competition and the camaraderie among friends that the game brought—always looking forward to his next golf match.

He was retired principal of State Steel Door Company and former northeast manager of Kinnear Overhead Door. Jim also served two years in the U. S. Army.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, January 22, at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church of South Dennis, 218 Main Street, So. Dennis, MA. The family would like to thank the aides and nurses at Epoch of Harwich and Hope Hospice who cared and comforted Jim this past year.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, 300 Arnold Palmer Blvd, Norton, MA, 02766.

Sincere condolences to Sally and to the Wiper family. Jim's ever present smile and pleasant manner added great enjoyment to the times I spent with him at Brae Burn. He is in my thoughts and prayers.
