 “No matter where he went, Cape Cod was home”
Frederick Herbert Sargent, 93, of Lake Wales, FL, formerly of Lakeland, FL and formerly of Dennis, MA, passed away January 29, 2016. Husband of the late Brenda Sargent for 58 years. She passed away in 2002. Born November 25, 1922 in Hyannis, he was the only child of Lulie and Captain Donald Sargent. He attended schools in Baltimore, New Orleans, Camden, NJ, and Philadelphia. Frederick and his wife, Brenda, were “snow birds”, spending 6 months in the winter in Lakeland, FL, and 6 months in the summer at their home on Cape Cod. He joined the maritime service during world war 1942 and then after the War, he served as chief purser on passenger ships operating to the east coast of south America. Returning to the Cape in 1950, Frederick became a prominent member of the business community, along with his father, owned and operated Swan River Seafood Restaurant, and Swan River Fish Market, whole sale and retail businesses. With his good friend and business partner, Dean W. Garfield, Frederick and Dean developed Garfield and Sargent, Inc. in 1960. They owned and operated Mid-Cape Firestone tire Company, GMC Truck Agency and furnished school bus transportation for Four Cape Towns. They owned and operated Tour and Charter Buses licensed by the Department of Public Utilities and the ICC. They managed the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority serving all 13 cape towns and they owned Cape Cod Realty Trust, developing land and building fine homes. Frederick was a member of the Mount Horeb Masonic Lodge, a Worthy Patron of Masona Chapter OES, both South Dennis, MA. He was Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias at West Dennis, MA, and a charter member of EPAC Grotto of Cape Cod, MA. Frederick helped start little league in the towns of Yarmouth and Dennis, MA. He was associated with the junior and senior Babe Ruth Leagues. He is survived by his son, Craig Thomas Sargent of Florida and his daughter, Sandra Gail Christensen of Dennisport; Grandchildren Alycia Hammond, Kevin and Brian Christensen, and Great grandchildren, Savannah Raskio, Jacob Hammond and Kaylei Hammond, all of Cape Cod, MA. Services will be private.

So sorry to read of Fred's passing. I worked for him in the 60's and always enjoyed my relationship with him. I send sympathy and condolences to his family.
