Andrew Joseph Dolan II

Jul 4th, 2015

Andrew Joseph Dolan II, 93, of South Yarmouth, died peacefully in his sleep with the support of hospice care on Saturday, July 4, 2015, after a long illness.

Born in Springfield, MA on September 28,1921 to Andrew J. Dolan and Jennie (Carlson) Dolan, Andrew recalled childhood days listening to his father play the piano and driving the milk-truck on deliveries with his mother. During WWII, Andrew served as an airplane and engine mechanic with the 396 Fighter Squadron, 368th Fighter Group. Stationed in Europe, Andrew served in campaigns in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. After the war, Andrew lived in West Springfield, MA, where he worked for the Springfield Street Railway and Brinks. A great lover of the outdoors, Andrew spent time hiking, camping and snow shoeing in the woods. He retired from the US Postal Service and moved to Cape Cod with his wife, Eleanor Randall (Cignoni) Dolan, where they enjoyed many happy occasions with family and friends playing the card game “pitch”. Following the death of his wife, Andrew continued to enjoy the Cape Cod charm with his longtime companion Millicent Pierce with whom he enjoyed reading the morning paper at the ocean and going on road-trips.

He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor of West Springfield, MA, his daughter Patricia A. Dolan of Westfield, MA, his son Andrew Joseph Dolan III of Gamaliel, AR, and his brother William Dolan.

He is survived by his granddaughter Emily D. Dolan of Seattle, WA, her mother Patricia Dolan of West Springfield, MA, his daughter-in-law Judy Dolan of Gamaliel, AR, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion Millicent Pierce of Millbury, MA and her family including her great granddaughters Olivia and Abigail Hatch and Madison and Miranda Drumm.

He will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.

The family would like to thank the members of Hope Hospice for their caring dedication and would ask that any memorial donation be made to Hope Health, 765 Attucks Way, Hyannis, MA 02601 (http://hopehealthco.org/giving).
