Richard T. Abramson, Sr.

Richard T. Abramson, Sr. 91 of South Yarmouth died Saturday April 9, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence, RI.

He was the husband of the late Doris J. (Robertson) Abramson.

Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, Mr. Abramson was the son of the late Gustav and Anna (Johnson) Abramson. He was raised and educated in Verona, NJ and was a graduate of Verona High School.

Mr. Abramson served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England, France, Germany and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 1945.

After his marriage, he moved to Wayne, New Jersey where he raised his family and worked as a salesman for Wayne Tile Co. for many years. He moved to South Yarmouth in 1977. A self-employed carpet and tile mechanic, Mr. Abramson founded and owned Lewis Bay Carpet and Tile for many years before his retirement.

Mr. Abramson was a member of the West Yarmouth Congregational Church and served on many committees and was a wise and respected leader.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, bowling, doing carpentry, growing vegetables and spending time with family.

Mr. Abramson is survived by a son, Richard T. Abramson, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Charlestown, RI; a daughter, Karen Mazur and her husband, Michael of Pompton Plains, NJ; his very close and dear friend, Daphne Yobbagy of South Yarmouth; five grandchildren, Charles S. and Michael Abramson, Krista Ramirez, and Michael R. and Kevin J. Mazur; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday April 15 in the West Yarmouth Congregational Church, 383 Main St., West Yarmouth.

Interment will follow in Chandler Gray Cemetery, 161 Old Mill Way, West Yarmouth.

Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday April 14 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
