George Jorgus Novacon

Jun 1st, 2015

George Jorgus Novacon, 82, of West Dennis, died peacefully on June 1, 2015, with his wife of 60 years by his side.  He was born in 1932 in Philadelphia, the son of the late Thomas and Olga Novacon.

George was a machinist with General Electric in Philadelphia before he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After retuning from Korea, George married the love of his life, Jeannette Karnemides. The next 60 years were spent enjoying a very full life with his wife and best friend by his side.  They were inseparable.

For several years George and his wife owned Geno’s Beauty Salon.  In 1964 they bought and managed The Eagle Tavern in Chester County, PA.  In 1968 George and his wife moved to Cape Cod to raise their son.  George was incredibly proud that he built his home for his family in West Dennis.  George wanted a career that would allow him to spend time with his family so he and his wife opened the Antique Clipper Salon and antique shop that was attached to their home.  George was also an accomplished carpenter who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone.

George loved his family and friends.  He dedicated many years to driving his son and his friends all over New England to BMX races.  He spent time at the West Dennis Yacht club and loved to sail. He volunteered with The Samaritans for many years helping people suffering from depression.  He spent several years as a volunteer renovated the Crosby Mansion in Brewster. George loved to explore nature and hike and along with his wife drove across the country several times vising national parks.  He especially loved hiking in the Grand Canyon.
In addition to his wife, Jeannette, George leaves behind his son Peter and his wife Karen Brandes Novacon of Osterville and his family in Pennsylvania including his sister Harriet Sapnas, his nephew Tom Sapnas and his wife Kathie, his nieces Helen Sapnas and Heidi Jackson, and his nephew Peter Stathis and his wife Sugirtha and their two children.  He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Stathis.  He also leaves behind his greatest joys, his grandchildren Alex and Mia Novacon of Osterville and his new grandniece Juliette of Pennsylvania.

Services are private.
