Jerry L. Guy 77 of Dennis died peacefully at home Thursday June 2, 2016.

Jerry was born and raised in California. In the late 1960s, he relocated to the east coast and after briefly teaching in Framingham, he moved to Cape Cod and became the Principal at the Barnstable-West Barnstable Elementary School (BWB), where he remained for 28 years until his retirement.

Jerry will always be remembered as being quick-witted, selfless, and a kind-hearted man who inspired and touched the lives of many.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Margie (Sylver); a son, Jonathan of Hyannis and Saint Lucia; a daughter, Melanie of Palo Alto, CA; three step-sons, Richard of South Yarmouth, Daniel and his wife, Sheila of Bedford, and Jeremy and his wife, Kristy of Scarborough, ME; a step-daughter, Amy and her fiancé, Charles of South Dennis; a sister, Jessie Seavey of Tuolumne, CA; four granddaughters, Zoe, Taleb, Aleena, and Layla; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Daisy (Kehne) Guy.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday June 7 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association (heart.org) and/or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (alzfdn.org).

Jerry will be missed! I have enjoyed sharing emails with him these last few years. I was also happy to see him on my yearly visits. My last visit, in May, I saw Jerry only briefly but he was, as usual, smiling and pleasant. He meant a lot to a great many. God bless you and may you rest in peace, Jerry.

Gerry was a dedicated educator He stood as an advocate for children He was always at the cutting edge of quality educational programs His service to the children of BWB was the primary focus of his career. He loved his family his community and his God Rest in peace Gerry Thank you for making our community a better place Ed Tynan
