Charles Francis Crowell

Charles Francis Crowell passed away after a courageous 17-month battle with melanoma, at his home in East Dennis on June 19th with his wife Joanie, their faithful companions Reba, Trillby, and Moose nearby. Charlie was born in Worcester, MA on February 12th 1936 and in his childhood moved to the Cape with his family to live permanently. He was predeceased by his parents, William Ernest and Annie Ryder Crowell and his sister Cynthia Edwards. He is survived by his wife Joan Heyliger Crowell, his brother William E. Crowell Jr. (Joanne), his nieces Susannah Crowell Remillard (Joe) and Pamela Edwards Talley (Wayne) and nephews William Bradford Crowell (Kim), Aaron Alden Crowell (Betsy), and Samuel Harvell Crowell (Mary) and Stephen Edwards. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
 
He was a graduate of Yarmouth High School, Boston University, and The New England School of Law (formerly Portia Law School). With his father, he opened the law firm of Crowell and Crowell in Dennis and continued to practice law until his recent illness.
 
He served his country honorably in peacetime with the Massachusetts National Guard.
 
Charlie was dedicated to serving the Town of Dennis, following in his father’s footsteps. He served on the Planning Board, as a Selectman for multiple terms, and most recently on the Board of Water Commissioners. He was past president and current member of the Village Improvement Society of Dennis, an organization he held very dear. He served the Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank first in the capacity of incorporator and then   trustee. He was a call firefighter and EMT, retiring at age 65.
 
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to VNA Hospice, especially Debbie, Pam, Margo, Odette, Karen, Carol, and Dionne as well as to the staff at Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center and Dr. Jaclyn Flanigan.
 
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, June 23 at 10 AM at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA. Interment in Dennis Village Cemetery following the service.
