Our kind and loving father, brother, grandfather and friend Jack Moran of Dennis passed away peacefully on Friday July 22nd after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1928 to Paul and Frances (Champney), Jack was raised in Leominster and was the oldest son of seven children. He left high school before graduation to join the U.S. Forestry Service where he became a fire lookout in Montana. From there he enlisted in the Army where he was stationed stateside as a medical x-ray technician for the remainder of WWII. After getting his GED he attended Norwich University - The Military Academy of Vermont, before being accepted into Lehigh University. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1952 with a degree in economics and soon took a position with Anaconda Metal Hose. In 1954 he met the love of his life Margaret at a classical music concert in Chicago, and married her that same year.  Theirs was a rare love story and when Margaret passed last year, Jack’s mighty heart struggled to carry on.

Jack traveled the world during his 45 year career at Anaconda Metal Hose in Waterbury, Connecticut, where he was Vice President of International Sales and Marketing. Along his many travels he made life-long friends in far off places that he and Margaret would regularly travel to.

Jack’s gentle and caring inspiration will live on in his children and grandchildren for years to come. His heart-felt service to others was always a foundation in Jack’s life. In the 1970’s Jack founded The Committee of Welcome to relocate three Vietnamese refugee families through St. Peter’s Church in Cheshire, Connecticut; where he was also a senior warden. He served as Chairman of the United Way annual pledge drive and as a Board Member of both the United Way and Family Services in Waterbury, Connecticut. Jack continued his unending willingness and enthusiasm to serve his community and congregation when he and Margaret relocated to the Cape in 1996 and joined St. Mary’s Church.  Among other parish activities and committees, Jack volunteered with the Miracle Kitchen providing meals to the Salvation Army, Amazing Grace of Cape Cod and Holy Smokes, a program to support St. Mary’s Church ministries through the sale of firewood.

Jack was predeceased by his sisters Pauline and Lois, his brother Terry and his parents Paul and Frances (Champney).  He is survived by his three children: Charlie and his wife Carole, Katherine and her husband Guy, and Tom and his wife Becky; six grandchildren, Nick, Eric, Amelia, Jared, Emily and Abigale; his sisters Nat and Mary and his brother Jim.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on August 13th at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 3055 Main Street, Barnstable.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jack’s memory to: Amazing Grace of Cape Cod, a summer camp program co-founded by St. Mary’s Church for children whose parents are incarcerated.
