BARRIO - Beatrice (Kew) 89 of Charleston, SC and formerly of South Yarmouth and Wellfleet passed away quietly Monday August 15, 2016, surrounded by her husband of 66 years, James A. Barrio, and daughters Deborah B. Belisle and her husband, Alex and Donna Jean Barrio and her partner, Lynn West all of Charleston, SC.

Beatrice is also survived by her brother, James R. Kew and his wife, Jamie of Henderson, NV; four grandchildren, Capt. Scott Brown of Haleiwa, HI, Jennifer Brown of Tampa, FL, Denise Kurtz of Canandaigua, NY and Lindsay Eppehimer of Charleston, SC; five great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and members of her extended family.

Born in Lexington, Beatrice moved with her family to Wellfleet when she was 16 years old. She graduated from the Army Nurse Corps in 1945, at the conclusion of World War II. She met and married her life-long spouse, James, also of Wellfleet, in 1949. Beatrice served as a Public Health nurse for the town of Wellfleet and the lower Cape region. She was an active Girl Scout leader, providing a decade of service between 1955 and 1965.

Her first and foremost devotion was to her family. However, she was quite active in the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, serving locally for the Orleans, Massona and Sandwich chapters of the OES, and state-wide for the Massachusetts Grand Chapter of OES. Beatrice was also an active participant in the Art Guild of Yarmouth, enjoying her time painting and displaying her artwork.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
