Ruth Abbott Kaselis

Ruth Abbott Kaselis, 97, passed away at home in Yarmouthport, MA on June 11, 2015.  Daughter of  Edith (Sanborn) and Leon D Abbott, she was predeceased by her husband, Vincent W Kaselis.  She is survived by her daughter in law and son, Martha and Peter V Kaselis, her granddaughter Cynthia Kaselis and her daughter, Edith S Kaselis MD and cousins, niece and nephews.  Born in Lowell, MA where she spent her childhood with her brother David Abbott (deceased) graduating from Lowell High School in 1934. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1938 and went on to get a Masters in Chemistry at Wellesley College.  She then moved to Bound Brook, NJ where she spent most of her adult life.  She worked at American Cyanamid as a research chemist until she had her first child.  Later she retrained at Rutgers University where she received a Masters Degree in Math Education.  For 25 years she taught Mathematics at Franklin High School in New Jersey where she also coached the Math League, assisted the National Honor society and the Future Teachers of America.  She continued to be involved with the Central Jersey Math League until after her 90th birthday.  She was a long time member of the Congregational Church of Bound Brook serving in a number of roles and a member of Church Women United.  She was a Cub Scout Den mother, Girl Scout leader (also a Golden Eaglet Recipient and life long member) and a Republican Committee member and treasurer.  She belonged to the Somerset Naturalists. If there was a worthy cause that needed a volunteer she was it.  With all of this her primary role in life was as a wife and mother to her children, assisting them in all of their endeavors and supporting their many projects.  There will be a private burial service in Lowell, MA and arrangements for a Memorial Service in Bound Brook, NJ will be announced later.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Mount Holyoke College (Advancement Office) 50 College Street, South Hadley, MA 01075 or the Congregational Church of Bound Brook, 209 Church St, Bound Brook, New Jersey, 08805.
