Sophie Wanda (Mastalerz) Szlosek

Sophie Wanda (Mastalerz) Szlosek, 96, passed away on November 8th in Chatham, MA. Sophie was born in Wilbraham, MA, the daughter of the late Michael and Antonina (Samel) Mastalerz.. She lived for more than sixty years in Ludlow, MA with her husband, Frank, where they built a home, raised a family, and operated a successful contracting business. Throughout her life Sophie was active in her parish and community and maintained a network of friends. An exceptionally talented seamstress and craftsperson, she is remembered through her beautiful handmade gifts by countless family members and friends. During her husband's final years, Sophie dedicated her life to the care of her beloved partner, Frank. Her sacrifice and compassion in caring for him in his last illness was a testament to the great love that they shared. In her later years, Sophie moved to Harwich to be closer to her daughter, Frances Libiszewski, where she enjoyed a peaceful retirement, visiting Nauset and Red River beaches and other locations on the Cape and spending time with her friends at Pine Oaks Village. She was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and followed their seasons faithfully. Sophie is survived by her daughter, Frances Libiszewski and Thomas Righi of East Harwich, her son, Michael T. Szlosek and Sherri Vail of Hudson, NH, her grandson, Michael A. Szlosek and his wife Lisa of Ludlow, and her beloved great grand-daughter, Maggie. She also leaves her wonderful friend and confidante at Liberty Commons, Dorothy Seuss. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Szlosek, and her son-in-law, Anthony Libiszewski. A memorial Mass celebrating Sophie's life will be held at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich at a later date. Sophie's family would like to express their most sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Liberty Commons in Chatham for their outstanding medical and emotional care. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Scott Miner of Harwich for his unwavering dedication to Sophie's well-being.
