Kaldis, Rita (Orfanakou), 77, of Dennis, passed away on Monday, June 15th, after a short battle with cancer, at the McCarthy Care Center, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Kaldis was the beloved wife of Elias Kaldis, the mother of Maria Kaldis of Yarmouth Port, and George Kaldis of Leominster. She was the grandmother of Megan Kaldis, Miranda Kaldis, and Brittany Kaldis.  Rita had three sisters: Athena Grigoriadis of Dennis, Eugenia Starogiani of Xirokambi, and the late Eirini Menoutis of Montreal.  She also had many dear nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.

Mrs. Kaldis, a Spartan to the end, was born in Xirokambi, Greece in 1938, the daughter of Anthony and Georgia Orfanakos.  She moved to Montreal to join her sisters in 1959, where she met Elias, the love of her life.  They married in 1962 and moved to Cape Cod in 1970.  Rita, or Chariklia as she was lovingly called in Greek, was a congregant of St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Centerville where, for decades, she freely gave her time and effort in support of the Annual Greek Festival.  While Rita enjoyed making literally thousands of various Greek patisseries with the church ladies in preparation for the festival, what she found most fun was selling Loukoumathes with her dear friend Matela during the festival.

Upon retirement Rita and her loving husband of 55 years, Elias, enjoyed wintering in Greece.  They loved being in her childhood home in Xirokambi, where they cultivated olive trees and then shipped their extra virgin olive oil back to the states for friends and family.

An accomplished seamstress throughout her life, Mrs. Kaldis also enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, crocheting and creating many beautiful things.  As a fabulous cook she always enjoyed having company, who in turn enjoyed her cooking.  Tending her flower garden also brought joy to Rita, who happily shared her beautiful flowers with friends and family.

The family would like to express gratitude to the entire staff at the HopeHealth, McCarthy Care Center for their compassion and dedication.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at the
