Thomas A. Grew Sr., 93 of Bass River, passed away peacefully at McCarthy Care Center on February 23, 2017. Tom, lovingly known as “Cap” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren is now happily by his beloved wife’s side of 58 years, Virginia. Tom was born in Barnstable, September 2, 1923 at his parent’s Ernest and Eva Baker Grew’s home. Tom grew up in Falmouth and graduated from Lawrence High School. After graduation, Tom proudly served in the United States Army as a flight engineer from 1943 to 1946. Upon returning to Cape Cod, Tom began a 40-year career as a home builder. Thomas Grew Inc. built many homes in the mid-Cape area. In addition to his successful building business Tom was also proprietor of many commercial businesses in the Yarmouth area. In retirement Tom and Virginia spent their winters in Naples, Florida where they enjoyed playing golf at Quail Creek Country Club and watching sunsets and dolphins from their home on Vanderbilt Beach. Tom was also a longtime member of Cummaquid Golf Club, Hyannis Yacht Club, and Bass River Yacht Club. As an accomplished golfer, he proudly had a hole-in-one at 83 years of age. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his two sons Thomas Jr. and his wife Linda, and David and his wife Eunice, five grandchildren Joshua (Kendall), Matthew (Dayton), Nicholas (Kelli), Benjamin (Vanessa), and Lauren. Cap was especially proud of his great grandchildren Sophie, Myles, Aquinnah, Finnley, Reagan, and Logan who he would visit daily on his morning rounds “surveying” his properties. On his behalf, the Grew Family would like to sincerely thank the many doctors, nurses, home and hospice care givers that supported Tom during these last several years. Your kindness and skilled care will always be gratefully remembered. There is an old Christian tradition that states: God sends each person into this world with their own special message to deliver, with a special song to sing for others, with a special act of love to bestow. Cap, your message has been heard in our hearts, your song has warmed our world, and your love has brightened our darkness. You will always be in our hearts and prayers. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at 10 am, Wednesday, March 1st, with a funeral service at 11am, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave. So. Yarmouth. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery, Summer Street, Yarmouth Port. Please join our family for a celebration of a life well lived after the burial at Cummaquid Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane Hyannis, MA 02601.

Tom & David, we were so sorry to hear of your dads passing. He was a wonderful man. It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing you were a special part of a well-lived life.
