Arthur “Art” C. Hoelzer of East Dennis, MA passed away at his home on March 11 at 76 years of age. Art enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed by his family and friends. Art was the son the late Catherine and Arthur Hoelzer. He was born on August 22, 1940 in Hartford, CT. He is predeceased by his son David M. Hoelzer and grandson Bowden T. McDonough. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Marlea Hoelzer, his daughter and son-in-law Melissa and John McDonough, his granddaughters Hannah Hoelzer (16) and Summer McDonough (8). He also is survived by his siblings; Ralph Hoelzer, Mark Hoelzer and Catherine Chabot; brother-in-law Jack Wrang; and nieces Megan Hoelzer, Carly Chabot, Katie Hoelzer and nephew Kurt Hoelzer. Art attended Hall High School in West Hartford, CT and Bates College in Lewiston, ME. He then went on to raise his family in West Hartford. After spending summers in East Dennis, MA he and his wife, Marlea, moved there full-time in 1995. He loved Cape Cod and everything about it. Art was a pioneer in the trucking industry, following in his father's footsteps. His father worked as a Vice President for Specter Transportation. Art founded his own company, Total Distribution Services (TDS) in West Hartford. He was a visionary seeing the future trends and set a new path in an old industry. TDS received one of the first 50 transportation brokerage licenses ever issued. This proved invaluable when the industry was deregulated in 1980. He valued his customers above anything else. Art brought aboard many high-profile customers and a variety of sales executives from different company backgrounds. TDS grew and prospered. Art was regarded as an industry leader whose opinion was sought out by everyone he knew. Art loved his family, friends, and his dogs. He was an avid and gifted athlete and loved tennis, golf, skiing and swimming. Art's love for gardening provided his family a beautiful yard filled with flowers. As the former commodore and member of the Dennis Yacht Club, Art loved boating. He named his first boat “Marlissa” in honor of his wife Marlea and daughter Melissa. Art was a voracious reader and loved to entertain his family and friends with his home-cooked specialties. He lived large and made everyone around him live larger because he was there. Art always had a big smile and warm greeting and brought joy, laughter and happiness to every occasion and everyone who knew him. He was the essence of a good time everywhere and anywhere he was present. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA.
