STEELE – Lois C. (Bain) 79 of Yarmouthport died Friday June 26, 2015 following numerous loving messages and gatherings of friends and family before her death. 
 
She was the wife of Richard M. Steele for 57 years. 
 
Born in Concord, Mrs. Steele was the daughter of the late William J. and Lillian (Archer) Bain.  She was a 1953 graduate and valedictorian of Maynard High School, and she received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1957.  While at UMass, she was a member of the Beta Eta Chapter of the Sigma Kappa Sorority.  In 1960 she earned a master’s degree in education from North Adams State College. 
 
Mrs. Steele was first employed as a chemist at the Nuclear Metals Company in Boston.  She then began a career in education as a science and mathematics teacher at Pittsfield High School.  She also taught science in Glen Falls, NY, Liverpool, NY, Roanoke, VA, and Nashville, TN.  She enjoyed the teaching experience of over twenty three years influencing over 4000 students in classes during her career. 
 
Mrs. Steele, and her husband, retired to Cape Cod in 1991 where she was active with the UMass Alumni Association for many years.  She lived in Orleans and enjoyed the ocean and bay that she had enjoyed on so many vacation trips to the Cape.  Then she moved to Yarmouthport and downsized for her later years. 
 
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Steele is survived by a brother, William J. Bain, Jr. and his wife, Doris (Dionne) of South Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Steele; and many nieces and nephews.   She was predeceased by a brother, Richard A. Bain; three sisters, Shirley Walsh, Marilyn Bain, and Nancy Kalio.  
 
Funeral services will be private. 
 
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth Fire and Rescue Squad, 96 Old Main St., South Yarmouth, MA 02664, or to the University of Massachusetts, Cape Cod Scholarship Fund, c/o UMass Alumni Assoc., Memorial Hall, 134 Hicks Way, Amherst, MA 01003 or to the charity of one’s choice.
