Grace Elizabeth (Buckingham) Hollis

Grace Elizabeth (Buckingham) Hollis passed peacefully on April 8, 2017 at Eagle Pond Nursing Home in South Dennis, MA after a decade-long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  She was surrounded by her family.
 
Grace was born in Westfield, Maine on January 9, 1938.  She was one of eight children born to, or raised by, Perley and Alda Buckingham.  She went to Mexico High School in Mexico, ME.  Grace met her future husband, Myles (Red) Leo Hollis while working at Mary’s Diner in Mexico, ME.  They were married on October 1, 1955 at the home of her parents, and honeymooned on the Presque Isle Fairgrounds.  After living in Farmington Falls, ME with Red’s family for some time, they moved to Cape Cod to find better work. 

Besides her parents, Grace was predeceased by her husband, Red.  Grace raised and is survived by; three children and two grandchildren, Robert Leo Hollis, Sr., Brian Patrick Hollis, Kim Suzanne Hollis Ingram, Mandy Leigh Hollis and Robert Leo Hollis, Jr. She was a kind, patient woman who guided her children through the many mountains and valleys of life.  She was always there with a helping hand and a bit of advice (when asked).  Grace also leaves behind; her grandchildren, Ash, Kacie, Niki, Alex, Bailey, Ryan, and Jamie and;  two great grandchildren, Raven and Robbin.
 
Grace worked at Shaw’s Supermarkets in Dennisport, South Yarmouth and Harwich.  She spent over 25 years with the company.  and made many friends while she was there.  She spent many happy times with her friend, Marie, (they called themselves “Thelma and Louise”). They traveled to England together and were inseparable.
 
She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.  Grace was truly “Amazing Grace”.
Grace had a love for all animals, especially dogs.  She lived for 60 years on Cape Cod and always had a dog.
 
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Eagle Pond who took such loving care of Grace, “You are amazing”. 
 
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Friday, April 14 from 4-6 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the Hallett Funeral Home followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Yarmouth, MA.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Sampson Fund Veterinary Care, P. O. Box 1756, Orleans, MA 02653
