Charles Francis Foley

Charles Francis Foley, 90, passed away Monday, August 21st, at his home under family and hospice care. 

Charlie was born in Astoria, Queens to Edward and Margaret (Gibney) Foley on March 9, 1927.  He attended St. Joseph’s Juniorate, an Xaverian Brother’s preparatory school, in Peabody, MA, graduating  in 1945.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree from St. John’s University in New York and later attained Master’s Degrees from Boston College, Notre Dame and New York University. 

He was a member of the Xaverian Brothers for twenty five years, teaching at Mission High School in Roxbury, MA, Flaget High School in Louisville, KY, Cardinal Hayes High School in Bronx, NY and Mumias Secondary School in Mumias, Kenya, among others.   As an administrator he was principal of John Bapst High School in Bangor, ME, The New High School in Brooklyn, NY,  Concord High School in Concord, NH  and Pembroke Academy in NH.

In 1972 he married Carol Ann Wynn of Worcester, MA, with whom he had a son, Charles (Chip) Jr.  They resided in Concord, NH until 1996, when they moved to South Yarmouth, MA.   In 1996 Charlie became a grandparent to Conor Joseph Foley.  Charlie continued to work as a salesman for LifeTouch School Studios, a starter at Bass River Golf Course and in the educational field as a private tutor and substitute high school teacher. 

Besides his immediate family he leaves his brother-in-law, Jack Wynn, nieces:  Nancy Dennis, Kelly Burns, and Peggy Sweetwood, nephews:  John Wynn, Tom Foley and Pat Foley, cousin, Mary Ferrante and many close friends on and off Cape. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Edward J. Foley in 2004.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth,
MA on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 4-6 P.M.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 25,
2017 at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA   Burial to follow in
Chandler Gray Cemetery, off Higgins Crowell Rd., West Yarmouth, MA.
