Scott Desmond McCracken

Sep 20th, 2017

Harwichport, MA:  We will all remember Scott as a man who loved the outdoors.  He was a licensed pilot and a sea captain for the restored Herreshoff schooner, “Mary Rose”.  He who loved to fish and ski, all while being a loyal and trustworthy salesman for both Hyannis Honda and Nauset Sports.   Scott D. McCracken, age 52, of Harwichport, MA passed away on September 20, 2017 at Wingate at Brewster Nursing Home from terminal esophageal cancer.

Scott was born in Worcester, MA, grew up in Great Barrington, MA and graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School in Berkshire County.  He went on to earn his Batchelor of Science degree in Aviation/Flight Technology from Florida Institute of Technology after attending Hawthorne College in Antrim, NH.

He is survived by his devoted parents on Cape Cod, Eleanor and Norman McCracken and his older brother, Bruce and his wife, Julia, of Topsham, ME, and their three children: James, Andrew and Emily. Also surviving are his Aunt Barbara, Uncle Howard and his wife, Judith, and numerous cousins on the east coast, western states and one in Australia.

A private committal service will be held at a later date in the family cemetery lot in Worcester, MA.

It was his expressed wish that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in his memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P. O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 (www.dana-farber.org) or to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601 (http://hopehealthma.org/giving).

Our hearts are heavy. Scott was a courageous man, loved by many and missed by us all. Deepest condolences to all who feel his loss, especially his Mom, Dad, brother and all of Scott's extended family. We are so very sorry for your loss. Having lost an adult daughter in 2008 , we can feel your pain. It is not the natural order. The pain never goes away but it softens over time. Hold on to the memories for through those we can find joy and laughter and tears. Blessings.

You are all a very special family to us and we have such wonderful memories of when we met and became live long friend back in the Doylestown days. When we first met Scott he was about 8 or 9 years old...but even then it was clear as an adult he would grow to be kind person with strong character. We are proud to have known him and our hearts are very heavy to lose such a special person. This is a difficult time and there are no words to make it better only the knowledge of how lucky we all were to have known Scott McCracken.
