Carol D. McCormick

Oct 25th, 2017

Carol D. (Dix) McCormick 91 died peacefully Wednesday October 25, 2017 in the presence of her family, after a brief illness at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.  She was the wife of the late John F. McCormick.

Carol was born in Springfield, the only child of Leonard and Lydia (Watson) Dix. She graduated from Attleboro High School in Attleboro and from secretarial school. She worked for Gorham Manufacturing in Providence, RI, prior to her marriage.

Carol lived with her husband in Rhode Island until 1962, when they relocated to Connecticut. She lived most of her life in Waterbury, CT before moving to Cape Cod in 2016 to be cared for by her daughter, Elizabeth.

Her family was the center of her life and she was never happier than at holidays and family gatherings. She loved hearing news of the latest accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and devotion to her family will live on through them.

Carol is survived by her five children, Joan Sutherland and her husband, Alistair of Reading, England, Linda Kupstis and her husband, Joseph of Waterbury, CT, John McCormick and his wife, Kathy of Naugatuck, CT, Elizabeth Johnson and her husband, David of Brewster, and Michael McCormick and his wife, Heather of Boston; her 11 grandchildren, Erin and Michael Hajduk, Kelly Kupstis Palumbo and her husband, Joseph and Katie Kupstis Merriam and her husband, Mark, Caroline McCormick, Patrick, Meghan and Kevin Johnson, and Ryan, Molly and Lucy McCormick; and her four great-grandchildren (with a fifth due in December), Brady and Benjamin Palumbo and Hayden and Madison Merriam.

The family would like to thank the staff of Broad Reach Hospice in Chatham, for the wonderful care they provided over the past several months.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday November 25 at Casey’s Eastside Memorial, 1987 East Main St., Waterbury, CT.

Burial will be private.

As an expression of sympathy, the family is requesting that donations be made to Broad Reach Hospice, 390 Orleans Rd., North Chatham, MA 02650.
