Frances M. “Franny” (Mullin) Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully after a brief illness , on November 12, 2017 in the presence of her family.

Born in Roslindale, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Mullin. She is predeceased by her six siblings: Priscilla Eastman, Patricia Robinson, Joseph Mullin, William Mullin, Richard Mullin, and Trudy Nightingale. She is survived by her loving husband, Clement Vaughn Smith, and children Clement Smith, Mary Walker, Rebecca Walsh, Gregory Smith, Joseph Smith, Frances Walsh, and Richard Smith.  Franny is also survived by six grandchildren who cherished and loved her dearly.

Over the course of many decades, Franny treasured spending time with her parents, siblings and extended family at the camp her parents built in Crowe’s Pasture in E. Dennis.  After high school, she graduated from Boston State Teacher’s College and taught at the Athens School in No. Weymouth. Franny and Vaughn met at Moseley's On the Charles Ballroom in Dedham, married two years later and started a family shortly thereafter. They eventually settled in Attleboro and later retired in East Wareham.

Franny was a devoted wife and mother who valued family above all else. “Grammy,” as she was affectionately known to her family, had a knack for words and was known for her dry wit and countless memorable expressions. She loved hearing news of the latest accomplishments of her grandchildren and always had words of praise and wisdom to share. Her legacy of love and devotion to her family will live on through them.

Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, November 20 at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA.  A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA.  Interment will follow at Quivet Cemetery, South Street, East Dennis, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in her name to South Shore Industries, c/o Cardinal Cushing Center, 405 Washington Street, Hanover, MA 02339. ( South Shore Industries supports employment opportunities for developmentally disabled adults.)
