G. Douglas Ide 87 of West Yarmouth and formerly of West Dennis and Wellesley died Sunday February 11, 2018 after a heroic battle with cancer.

He was the husband of Elizabeth A. (Kelleher) Ide. They had been married for 62 years.

Born, raised and educated in Fitchburg, Mr. Ide was the son of the late George and Mary (McCormack) Ide. He graduated from St. Bernard High School in Fitchburg and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Fitchburg University and his Master’s Degree from Boston University.

Mr. Ide served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Mr. Ide served as the Principal at Medfield Jr. High School for 10 years.

A resident of Wellesley for 45 years, Mr. Ide was a Town Meeting member and past president of the Wellesley Tennis Association. After 30 years in education, Mr. Ide retired to West Dennis where he was a member of the Dennis Yarmouth New Comers Club, the Mid-Cape Tennis Club, the Dennis Yarmouth Men’s Club and a member of Dennis Golf. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Betty.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Ide is survived by four sons, Michael and his wife, Maureen of Dracut, Mark and his wife, Ann of Framingham, Rob and his wife, Annie of Brookline, and Daniel of Fallbrook, CA; four daughters, Judy Hilton and her husband, Fred of Needham, Betsy Heald and her husband, Sam of Bedford, NH, Barbara Lewis of Denver, CO, and Nancy Bradham and her husband, Phil of Apex, NC; fourteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m Friday February 16 in St. Pius Tenth Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Interment will be private.
