Richard Bruce "Dick" Martin

Feb 10th, 2018

Richard Bruce "Dick" Martin of Largo, FL and formerly a resident of Yarmouth, MA, passed away unexpectedly, February 10, 2018.

Born in Stoughton, MA June 18, 1946, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Irene Martin and father of Jennifer Irene Curtis (Jared), of Hanover, MA, and grandfather of Samantha Irene and Madeline Anne Curtis. His brother, Thomas J. Martin of Yarmouth (Janice), nephew Thomas J. Martin III (Colleen) of Williamstown and five grand-nieces and nephews also survive.

Dick was a 1964 graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School, a proud U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, and spent a career spanning four decades both on Cape Cod and in Florida in the automotive sales and service industry. In his post-retirement years, he continued a lifelong pursuit of athleticism, concentrating on teaching cycling (spinning) at local fitness clubs, inspiring many fellow athletes. Despite a life-threatening heart attack in 2014, Dick taught cycling until the very end. He loved the Red Sox, the Patriots and trips “up North” to be with family. Dick’s authentic and charismatic nature made it easy to love him.

A Celebration of Life was held in Florida, and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, February 19th in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 12:30PM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation in his honor to Bay Pines VA Hospital, https://www.baypines.va.gov/BAYPINES/giving/donate.asp

Dickie was a great guy. Many fond memories. We went to high school together and had to share the same chair at high school graduation because we were the tallest and not enough seats! I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t be there because I have to work. Your whole family has my deepest sympathy. Sincerely Sally poole
