Helen U. (Waitkevich) Crossman 93 of Yarmouth Port died at her home Saturday August 18, 2018.

She was the wife of the late Robert J. Crossman who died in 1984.

Born in Norfolk, MA, Mrs. Crossman was the youngest daughter of fiercely loyal Lithuanian immigrants who taught their daughters the importance of their heritage and family values.

Helen was a World War II Navy veteran serving stateside in Elmhurst, NJ. While stationed in Elmhurst she was able to ride in the Hindenburg Blimp. She was honorably discharged as a storekeeper third class in 1947.

Later in life, Helen studied Hospitality at both Framingham State College and Cape Cod Community College. She enjoyed traveling with the Elder Hostel in the United States and Europe.

Helen is survived by three daughters, Elaine Kuzyk and her husband, Paul Leighton of Cotuit, Nancy Bartkowiak and her husband Norman of Ware, and Carol Niemi and her husband, Wayne of Westminster; eight grandchildren, Daniel and Elizabeth Kuzyk, Rebekka Stasny, Erik and Alex Bartkowiak, Zach Niemi, and Jamie and Julia Kime; six great grandchildren, Isabel Stasney, Aryanna Kuzyk, Neako Ruidiaz, and Emma, Jacob and Sarah Bartkowiak; her younger brother, Walter Waitkevich; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday August 28 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Interment will follow at 1:15 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday August 27 in the funeral home.
