W. Douglas “Doug” Wade 78 of South Yarmouth died peacefully Saturday August 25, 2018, from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease.

He was the loving husband of Gloria (Torgerson) Wade. They had been married for 51 years.

Born in Boston, Doug was the son of the late Joseph D. and Norma E. (Knight) Wade. He was a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and then served active duty with the Air Force  at Andrews Air Force Base In Washington, DC.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1964.  He then joined the Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer, serving in India, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.

Doug held two Master's Degrees and dedicated his life to public service.  A place dear to his heart was Nova Scotia, where he spent many summers as a child with his relatives. Doug also served as a Deputy Sheriff, and a Social Worker in the State of Maryland. He was a volunteer at his church and for countless organizations. Doug’s love for baseball began in Little League, continued as a pitcher at the Air Force Academy, and came full circle as a Little League coach in Easton, MD. He was also a lover of the outdoors, the family dog, "Pooch", stamps, ice cream and donuts (particularly jelly sticks).

A donor to many causes, Doug’s final donation was his brain to the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his five children, Matt, Ben, Beth, Peter and Stephanie and their spouses; and five grandchildren, all of whom he greatly adored. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Sept. 15 in Pilgrim Congregational Church, 533 Main St., Harwich Port, MA.
