Henry C. Gill, Jr. 90 of South Yarmouth and Naples, FL and formerly of Needham died peacefully at his home Monday October 1, 2018.

He was the loving husband of the late Anne (Dudley) Gill who died in December 2017. They had been married for 62 years.

Born in Brockton, Mr. Gill was a graduate of the Choate School, Harvard College, and Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II, stationed in the Caribbean. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

Starting in 1953, Mr. Gill worked for Reed and Barton Silversmiths in Taunton until his retirement as President in 1992. He also served on the board of the Bristol County Trust Co., and the Taunton Savings Bank.

Mr. Gill volunteered for many organizations including, the United Way, the American Red Cross, the Southeastern Mass Development Commission, the Southeastern Hospital Association, and the Harvard Club of Southeastern Massachusetts. He was named “Man of the Year” in Taunton in 1975.

Upon his retirement, Mr. Gill became chairman of the board of CapeAbilities, president of the South Yarmouth Association, and commodore of the Bass River Yacht Club. He also served on several town committees.

An avid fisherman, Mr. Gill also enjoyed skiing, and sailing with his family and friends.

Henry was the dedicated father to his two children, H. Bain Gill and his wife, Nadine (Reynolds) of Medfield, and Sarah Henry of Concord; and a devoted grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Peter, Natalie, Dana, and Tommy Gill and Farren, Mimi and Alice Henry.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27 in St. David’s Episcopal Church, 205 Old Main St., South Yarmouth.
