Derrick Holdsworth, a wonderful man with a brilliant mind, loving heart, and gentle soul, died in his home in East Sandwich, with family at his side on Wednesday afternoon, October 31, 2018 He was 88 years old.

Derrick was born on February 16, 1930 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England. He graduated college at the age of 15 and came to the United States at the age of 18. At 21 he joined the U.S. Army and served honorably as a radio technician for two years during the Korean War. Upon his separation from the Army he continued to use his expertise in electronics, working as an electrical engineer and draftsman at the Fenwal Corporation. He then started his own business, designing circuit boards for large electronics companies for approximately twenty years. He then went to work for Bose Corporation, ultimately retiring from there.

Derrick was a very talented artist who loved using oil paints to craft hundreds of wonderful ocean scenes, landscapes and other beautiful images on canvas. He had a dry sense of humor and often performed simple magic tricks to the delight of all. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man with a deep appreciation for family, friends and the simple joys of life. His life will leave a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Derrick is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Margaret (Switzer) Holdsworth, his loving daughter, Valerie Reed, and his three grandchildren.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a procession to the  Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA for graveside serices at 2:00 p.m.
