Mary Ellen Annese 86 of Yarmouth Port and formerly of Waltham passed away Friday October 26, 2018, surrounded by her family at the Mayflower Rehabilitation Center in West Yarmouth, after a brief illness.

Mary Ellen was born in Waltham, the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine (Claffey) Woods. She was raised in Waltham where she attended grade school at St. Charles and was a 1952 graduate of Waltham High School. She was a longtime parishioner of St Charles Borromeo Parish where she was a member of the Women's Club, St. Vincent's Society, and a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She was also an active member of the Waltham Garden Club, Tennis Club, and Waltham's politics. She worked in the Volunteers Office for the Waltham Hospital and retired from the Waltham City Clerk's office.

After retiring, she and her husband, Kenny (the love of her life) followed their dream and moved to Yarmouth Port. During her years in Yarmouth Port she was an active member of St. Pius X Parish. She was also very involved in many local civic organizations such as the St. Pius Women’s Guild, Garden Club of Yarmouth, and the Bayberry Quilters Club. She loved all kinds of handcrafts, especially sewing, quilting, and flower arranging. She made beautiful quilts for her family, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was known by family and friends as an avid gardener who happily shared her expertise and knowledge in horticulture. She enjoyed tending to her gardens and sharing her gardens with her family and friends and participating in local garden tours.

Mary Ellen will be remembered for her many talents, generosity, smile, sense of humor, and an eagerness to help people.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth and her children, Vera and Tom Skinner, Cathy and Frank Albano, Kim Annese, Scott Annese, Brett and Lisa Annese, Eileen and Mike Cote, Keith and Kathy Annese, Jennifer and Eric Nall, and Melanie and Tim Hallaran. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves her In-laws Linda Woods, Jane and Bill Adelson, Betty and Clive Dyson, and Priscilla and Joe Brotherton. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and special life-long friends, Connie Koutoujian and Kay Melanson. She is predeceased by her siblings, Jack Woods, Pat Wilson, and Jeanette Claffey.

A celebration of her life and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will be private.
