Carol S. Miner

Nov 11th, 2018

Carol Miner died peacefully, after a long illness, on November 11, 2018 at Harbor Point a Benchmark community in Centerville on Cape Cod. Carol was loved and is missed by all who knew her. She was born on December 19, 1951 in Amsterdam, New York, the daughter of Dominick and Jean (DiBlasi) Cotugno.

She grew up in Amsterdam and in 1969, graduated from Amsterdam High School. Carol earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the State University of New York at Albany. She began her career in education following graduation and in 1977 she married William (Bill) Miner and they settled in Amsterdam, New York. Carol was a science teacher in the Scotia-Glenville Central School District for 33 years. Her expertise and interests were particularly in Biology. She also served on many school committees and was a cooperating teacher for student teachers and mentor teacher for those new to the profession.

After retirement, Carol and Bill moved to live on beautiful Cape Cod, where they enjoyed their home, spending time with their dog Bailey, golfing, sightseeing, visiting local restaurants and joining others at local trivia nights. Carol always looked forward to family visits and was known for her cooking talents and loved preparing her famous dishes for them to enjoy. Traveling together was a hobby for Carol and Bill. In recent years they enjoyed a Caribbean Cruise with friends and a dream trip to Italy with Bill and Carol’s brother Art Cotugno and sister-in-law Diane. This past June, Carol and Bill celebrated 41 years of marriage. Carol’s family members were her heart and joy.

She leaves her husband William (Bill) Miner, brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Diane Cotugno, nieces Casey Toussaint and her husband Derik, Jennifer Cotugno, nephew Christopher Cotugno and his wife Jennifer. Carol is also survived by two great-nieces and a great-nephew.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to those at Harbor Point and Broadreach Hospice who lovingly cared for Carol during her time there.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 9:30am to 10:30am in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Carol’s life will immediately follow at 11:00am in Saint Pius X on Station Ave in South Yarmouth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the One Company Fund, Benchmark Senior Living, 201 Jones Rd, Waltham, MA 02451.

Family of Carol, It is with great sadness that I read of the passing of Carol in the Daily Gazette. Carol was an outstanding Biology teacher at SGHS. Her students always achieved the highest level of knowledge about the human body. She motivated them to reach their highest potential. On a personal level, my son Matthew, one of her AP Biology students continued his love of Biology that Carol instilled in him, and is currently an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Oncology. He loved her class very much. It was my pleasure being her Superintendent of Schools for 13 years. God now has a special angel in heaven.
