Sallyanne (Shanks) Brown died peacefully in her Yarmouth home on December 21, 2018. She was 84 and was a beloved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.

Sally was born in Boston on June 4, 1934, the youngest child of Joseph F. and Bertha L. (Seely) Shanks. She was proud to be O.F.D. (Originally from Dorchester) having grown up in Savin Hill. She graduated from the Dorchester High School for Girls in 1952 and then went to work for the 2nd National Bank in Boston. She married Thomas J. Brown of Brockton on November 27, 1955. Together, they welcomed their only child, Steven in 1961, and she enjoyed her new role as a stay at home mom.

In 1971, Sally, Tommy and Steven moved from Brockton to their new home in Yarmouth. She enjoyed hosting friends and relatives in her home, and no one ever left her house hungry. Sally had to reinvent herself in 1984 following the death of her husband. After more than 20 years out of the workforce, Sally resumed her career in banking, working in mortgage servicing at the Operations Center of Sentry Savings Bank in Hyannis (later NBIS), eventually becoming a teller at the Orleans branch of Fleet Bank.

Upon her retirement from banking, Sally worked several years as a bookkeeper at Wimpy’s in Osterville, and then as a hostess at the Riverway in South Yarmouth. She really enjoyed being “Grammy Sally” to her two granddaughters, Victoria and Elizabeth Brown. She loved them dearly and spoiled them whenever she could.

In addition to her son and granddaughters, Sally is survived by her daughter-in-law, Melanie, nephew Robert Columbare and his wife Frannie, nephews Richard and Ralph Columbare and her niece Jo-Anne Gain. She will also be missed by her friend of nearly 80 years, Sister Anne Marie Connolly, S.N.D. Sally was predeceased by her parents, husband, and siblings Dorothy E. Columbare, C. Vivian Buckley and Joseph G. Shanks.

Per Sally’s request, visiting hours are omitted. A private committal service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally’s name can be made to any charity that benefits animals.

Steven and Family We were neighbors of your Mom for the last 10 years and just learned of her death today. We last saw her back in October and enjoyed a few minutes talking with her as she walked me thru the house to show me some new projects! We enjoyed seeing her each summer when we were down she always spoke of you and the girls. She seemed very happy on Barnacle Rd as she was always puttering around the house doing chores inside and outside. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family John & Lyn Goode Barnacle Rd
