Frederick E. Tarr, Sr

Jan 15th, 2019

Frederick Tarr 79 passed away January 15, 2019 at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his children.

Fred was born January 24th 1939 in Dennis Massachusetts to Parents Ralph and Ruth Tarr. He was one of 8 children. He left school early to help support his family in hard times. He later married a wonderful woman Roberta on August 2nd 1960. They went on to have 7 amazing children of their own. He worked hard to support his always growing family as a mason. He enjoyed the physical work and the sun shining down on him. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed camping with his family in his converted school bus. Fred often took his kids out on adventures to bike, skate, and swim. When he wasn’t doing that you would find him on his motorcycle. Whether it was just him or him and his wife or kids one thing was always guaranteed he had a huge smile on his face. He loved the freedom and wind of a good ride. As he aged many things changed. He started a new career as a groundskeeper at a golf course. He got up before the sun and was done in time to enjoy another passion of his a round of golf. Then would head home on the weekend to a house filled with grandchildren. He was done growing his family but a new adventure was just beginning. He described it as one of the best parts of his life he was a grandfather. He wasn't your average one either. He rode bikes, roller bladed, played at playgrounds, and threw kids into ponds all with an infectious smile. He was never still unless Nascar or a western movie was on. That all changed in September 2004 when he was in a devastating motorcycle accident. He fought hard to come back from the accident even when doctors thought he wouldn’t make it. In the end he won but he did lose most of the use of his legs.

Fred was a stubborn man and even that couldn’t slow him down. He suffered the loss of his wife Roberta in May 2007. This left him with a lot of free time to perfect his crossword puzzle skills and work on his award worthy tan. Fred was then lucky enough to do something many people don’t get the privilege to do, he became a great grandfather. This begun a whole new purpose. His spark was back and his energy was up. He loved them with his whole heart. His eyes lit up for them like none of us has seen in years. He played, wrestled, rocked babies, sang, colored and listened as if they were the most important people in the world. Then he filled them with cookies and lollipops. There isn’t a more pure love then what he and they got to share. His weekly visits gave him something to always look forward to. But all good things must come to an end. He was ready,he was done and at peace with what he had done here on earth. He was the most stubborn man you’ll ever meet. He could be tough but he could be kind. He was full of love and taught us all so much. We will miss him always but for those who knew him if you listen really close we will always be able to hear his signature “Hello” on the other end of the phone.
