Robert V. Anderson

Feb 4th, 2019

South Dennis — Robert V. Anderson (Bob), 86, died Monday, February 4, 2019. He was the husband of the late Jean Anderson and the son of the late Roy and Flo Anderson.

Originally from Chicago, Bob graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois with a degree in Physics in 1954. He moved to Washington, DC and worked for the Naval Research Laboratory for his entire career. He met Jean in Washington, DC and they married in 1956 and raised four boys. Jean had family originally from South Dennis, so after Bob finally retired for good, they permanently moved to the Cape in 1996.

Outside of work, Bob enjoyed singing with the Southern Maryland Choral Society; playing softball, basketball and tennis with his sons while wearing steel-toed paratrooper boots; the Cubs and Bears (which earned him the permanent nickname of "Cub"); collecting a vast array of tools; singing in choir at Capitol Hill Metropolitan Baptist Church and Brewster Baptist for many years, as well as teaching Sunday school classes in those churches; and being a voracious reader. While working for the Navy he was respected as a leading experimental physicist in atmospheric physics. After retiring from the Navy, he taught for a year at Northern Virginia CC and for two years at Riverdale Baptist High School.

Bob is survived by four children: Andy of Annandale, VA; David of Orwell, VT; Gordon and his wife Pam of Forestdale, MA; and Peter and his wife Leslie of Shreveport, LA. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Brewster Baptist Church, followed by a burial in South Dennis Cemetery. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
