Sherill E. Sylver (Smith) 71 of Yarmouth Port died at her home Monday February 18, 2019 with family and friends by her side, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

She was the former wife of the late Donald W. Sylver.

Born in Wareham, Sherry was the daughter of the late Robert and Alice (Pederzani) Smith. She was raised and educated in Hyannis and graduated from Barnstable High School in 1966.

Following in her father’s footsteps at the age of 12, Sherry began her love of go-kart racing which she continued for 25 years and winning many races throughout the United States. That love for racing was passed onto her children.

Other hobbies included cooking, especially her Italian recipes which were passed down through the generations from Bologna, Italy. She was also an avid gardener, lover of all animals, and loved to travel. Sherry worked for Dr. Gary Shapiro for over 25 years, a career that she truly loved.

Mrs. Sylver is survived by a son, Kevin M. Sylver and his wife, Jessica of West Barnstable; a daughter, Kristen M. Keller and her husband, Daniel of South Yarmouth; a sister, Sandra Stewart of East Wareham; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was “Nonnie” to Maxwell and Shelby Keller, and “Nana” to Benjamin and William Sylver. She is also survived by many close friends, including her dearest friend of 64 years, Christine Contonio.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday February 27 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Visitation will precede the service from 4 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

Kristen- I can remember sitting on the cold bleachers with your Mom watching you at D-Y. I always looked for her there because she was fun. I am so sorry for you and your family..
