Harold B. Nelson Jr. “Harry” 91 of South Yarmouth, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Monday February 25, 2019 at the Windsor Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in South Yarmouth.

Harry was born in Elizabeth, NJ, the only child of Harold and Gertrude Nelson, and later joined cousins, Ray, Lyman “Sandy” and Lois in Roselle Park, NJ for rearing through high school by his aunt Bertine (Thompson) Teichman, later acting grandmother to his sons.

After proudly serving his country in the Army, Harry graduated from Albright College in Reading, PA, where he met Claire, the love of his life.

A great manager and mentor, Harry led a successful career with Connecticut General Life Insurance, then CIGNA in central New Jersey.

Harry and Claire raised their sons in Berkeley Heights, NJ where his devotion to them had him starting a Cub/Boy Scouts Troop, assistant coaching for the Berkeley Heights PAL, and serving as Director for the Berkeley Heights Recreation Commission where he was integral in developing athletic facilities enjoyed today.

They retired in 1988 to Dennis near where the family vacationed since the late 1950’s.

Youth employment at ‘Bowcraft’ outdoor adventure park in Scotch Plains, NJ led to annual family skiing vacations in New England. His interests included The Old Songs and singing Barber Shop, gardening, team sports, recreational skiing and sailing, duckpin bowling and GOLF, his true passion once retired on Cape Cod. Harry was a fast friend to all he touched, the ultimate people person, a Cape Cod Men’s Club member and active supporter of the Friends of Dennis Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Claire (Bailey), three sons, Harry (Brenda), Steve (Bradley) and Scott (Kathleen); and his grandson, Konner.

A celebration of his life will be held mid-August when family and friends are making most of his beloved Cape Cod. Please contact the Nelsons closer in for details.

Memorial donations are welcome at Friends of Dennis Senior Citizens, Inc., P.O. Box 287, South Dennis MA, 02660, www.friends of dennisseniors.com or to the Alzheimer's Association.
