Brenda N. (Joseph) Martinez, 63, of South Yarmouth passed away peacefully on April 28 surrounded by family. Brenda was born in Barnstable at Cape Cod Hospital to the late Arthur F. Joseph and Kathryn (King) Joseph of Truro. She grew up with her brothers Arthur Jr. and Joseph Bogolawski, and sisters Kathleen (Joseph) Holmberg and Jean (Bogolawski) Rose. Brenda graduated Provincetown High School with the class of 1973.

Brenda worked at Provincetown Boston Airline (PBA) before raising her three children, and returned to work at Cape Air in Hyannis for many years thereafter. She was married to the late Samuel J. Martinez, also of Provincetown, in October of 1981.

Brenda was always the first to volunteer to help anyone with anything, and if she couldn’t help you, she would get you in touch with someone who could. She enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, cruising the Caribbean with family and friends, maple walnut ice cream, and lazy drives around the Cape with her hubby. She was actively involved in the community as a member of St. Pius X Church, a Girl Scout troop leader, and attended all her children’s soccer games, track meets, musical performances and band competitions throughout the entire East Coast.

Brenda was deeply devoted to her family, and would tell anyone willing to listen about her family’s travels and the accomplishments of her kids. She is survived by her three children, Megan (Martinez) Thoen of Lubbock, Texas, Kaycee Martinez of Westfield, and Steven Martinez of Somerville, her sister Jean, her many nieces and nephews, cousins, and her grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “Nana”.

Visiting hours will be held for family and friends at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA, from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. There will be a funeral Mass on Monday, May 6, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA.

In lieu of flowers, Brenda’s family requests that memorial donations be made to Compassionate Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574, or to V.N.A. Hospice, 434 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.

We loved your mom and your dad. They always showed up for their kids and the community. Parenting was their first and best job, and their love and commitment now lives with you. They made a difference in our community and made it s better place to live. And I'm grateful to have gotten to know them. Prayers for your grief and time together.

Brenda was a wonderful friend. We shared a birthday, born the same exact day, perhaps that’s why we were instant friends. Through all the years of DY school events and after I always loved catching up and being together with our extended group of women. I’m sorry I cannot be there this weekend, unfortunately we have had a family death and I’ll be out of town. My sympathies and love to the entire family.

Dear Meg, Kaycee and Stephen, We send our deepest sympathy and want you to know that our we are thinking of all of you at this really difficult time. Your Mom was so proud of all of you and spoke to us about you all with such love and pride. We had wonderful long talks and knowing her wishes, I can’t help but think there was mercy in God’s plan for her in the end. She will always be one of the kindest, generous and selfless people we have ever known. With love, Maryellen and Steve
