Rose Castiglione

Sep 6th, 2015

Rose Castiglione, age 92, the daughter of Charles and Anna Piccaro, died on September 6, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Angelo, her son Mark, her sisters Lee and Mary, and her brothers Joseph and Charles.
She was born and lived in Auburn, NY until 2010 when she moved to Cape Cod to be closer to her daughters.  Rose thrived on the Cape, always happy to take a walk on the beach and enjoy the beauty of the sunsets. She always said she felt alive by the ocean. Rose made many friends at Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth, where she was surrounded by so many interesting and kind people. She was also thankful to spend her final months living with her daughters.
Family was the focus of her life.  She loved nothing better than to sit down to a dinner of homemade pasta and a nice glass of red wine, surrounded by people she loved.  Many memories were made at the family camp on Owasco Lake, a place to which they returned over the years for reunions.
Music and travel were always interests.  She enjoyed listening to all music genres, loved to sing, and could easily talk about the current music scene.  She shared travel adventures with family members, too, including trips to Europe, Egypt, Israel and Greece and a road trip across the U.S. with her daughter.  She was also active with the Sennett Seniors and took many trips with friends there.
Rose was a devoted volunteer with Hospice of the Finger Lakes, Sacred Heart Church, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Auburn.  She also regularly participated in charity walks to raise funds for various organizations.  Rose worked for several years at Auburn High School, but her life as a mother and homemaker was the role she most cherished.
She is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Kathy) of Cape Cod, her son Pete (Kristin) of Arizona, her son David (Lori) of NY, her brother Ernest of Florida, and her four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, plus several nieces and nephews.
She will always be remembered for her huge heart and kind spirit.  Her enthusiasm for life, and love of family and friends, are what we will hold close to our hearts.  To celebrate her memory, find a song you like, turn up the volume, and dance.
